With a sudden need to bolster the defences of the Aurora Basilica, the original Damnation prototypes were intended as weapon testbeds for a new mass driver. The results proved so successful, however, that the Damnation class was rolled out as a ship in its own right, intended to support the existing Deliverance class ships should an offensive be required.
Its primary armament is a single super-heavy mass driver, surrounded by three slightly smaller heavy mass drivers. All are mounted along the ships spine, giving it incredible forward firepower for its size, yet making it tactically inflexible. Design constraints prohibited the inclusion of additional firepower other than minimal point defence turrets, and the cramped superstructure only has space for a single Angel, to transfer crew and supplies to the ship.
